General Considerations and Ice Rink Guidelines

  • Coaches are prepared to require that a player exhibiting signs or symptoms of illness will need to leave practice (this applies in the same way as a suspected concussion).
  • Players need to bring and label their own water bottles, no sharing of water.
  • All patrons entering the Ice Rink must wear face coverings, while not on the Ice Surface.
  • All patrons must maintain social distancing of 6 feet or more, while not on the Ice Surface.
  • Arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time.
  • All skating participants must be fully or partially dressed and skates will be put on after entering the Ice Rink in a designated area.
  • Patrons on the Ice must maintain social distancing to the best of their ability while skating.
  • No use of Locker Rooms or Showers (Levy Rink will allow locker rooms with limited amounts of players).
  • Spectators should be limited to one per player.
  • No more than 22 people will be allowed on the Ice Surface at any one time. This will include any Coaches and Skaters.
  • At this time the Ice Rink will allow skill sessions and no contact scrimmaging only, no competitive games until further notice.
  • Ice Rink will schedule ice time with twenty-five minute intervals between sessions and all common areas will be cleaned and sanitized after each usage.
  • Parents should screen players BEFORE taking them to the rink.  Common questions to be asked are:
    • Had close contact (within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes) with a person with confirmed COVID-19
    • Traveled to or lived in an area where the local, Tribal, territorial, or state health department is reporting large numbers of COVID-19 cases as described in the Community Mitigation. Framework Live in areas of high community transmission.
    • Temperature 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth.
    • Sore throat.
    • New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (for players with chronic allergic/ asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline).
    • Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain.
    • New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever.

The top priority of the organization will continue to be the safety of our players and families.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

NRI 2020/2021 Preseason

Similar to how schools are preparing for the Fall so are we. We will be having a preseason period starting on SUNDAY 8/30. Players will be assigned preseason skating groups or “Pods” for the first couple weeks. After these preseason sessions are completed, team assignments will be announced. This approach will allow the kids to get back on the ice skating while having the benefit of a longer evaluation period. The preseason groups are NOT Teams for the upcoming season.

Group schedules will be viewable on sportsengine in the next couple of Days. A NRI Covid - 19/ 2020/2021 USA Hockey form needs to be on file in order to be assigned to a group. Please note location as both Smithfield and Levy Rinks are being used.

NRI VIKINGS 2020/2021 SEASON UPDATE

We continue to monitor the guidance from USA Hockey and the State of Rhode Island. In preparation for the upcoming season we are asking that all families complete the NRI Vikings Covid -19 Waiver form which will require a 2020/2021 USA Hockey #.  The form will also ask you to provide a Jersey size for your child. Jersey Size Chart will be located online in this update.

We are asking that you complete this no later than Sunday August 16th.  This will allow us to schedule ice time in accordance with the current skater capacity limits at the Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink. Each rink has their own safety guidelines for operation. The latest Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink rules are attached. Our goal is to get everyone on the ice and team placements by Labor Day.  Please make every effort to complete this by Sunday August 16th. If we don’t have a waiver form on file, your child will not be scheduled for the upcoming on Ice Sessions. We will make date and time announcements shortly.

Thank you,

NRI Board of Directors
